Jesus was the promised Messiah, the foretold Savior, who would rule over God’s chosen people and restore their nation. There were high expectations placed on the Messiah by the hopeful nation of Israel. These were general expectations of the Messiah. I would imagine that Jesus’ followers would have had some more specific expectations. Expectations that would have naturally grown from their personal relationship with Jesus.
In this Easter series we look at a number of people who encountered the resurrected Christ and the journey of their expectations. That their expectations would have taken a nose dive when Jesus was arrested, crucified, and buried. But then how these expectations would be far exceeded on the other side of the resurrection!
